Bottoms Up

ambigram cake

It’s ambigram season again! For those of you who have forgotten, an ambigram is a word, art form or other symbolic representation whose elements retain meaning when viewed or interpreted from a different direction, perspective, or orientation (Wikipedia). In other words, it reads the same right side up and upside down. Pretty cool, right? I’m going to save you the effort of turning your computer screens over and show you the inverse of this photo.

Now admittedly, it’s a bit of a puzzle along with your dessert, but who doesn’t want their cake to be multi-purpose? Can you read it? I’ll give you a hint. It says Mazal Tov Ari and Talya.

This is a cake that nobody else is going to have, because what other couple do you know named Ari and Talya? When you order it, it can have your name on it instead.

I decided to decorate the sides with an argyle print because – you guessed it – argyle looks the same in both directions.

I would like to take credit for this design but sadly I am not a calligrapher. Rather, I owe this genius idea to my brother, Jonathan Mishkin ([email protected]) who is available to create ambigrams for your every occasion – invitations, door signs, you name it!

Tick Tick Tick

It’s now 17 days till the big night. That’s Rosh Hashanah night for those of you who are somewhat oblivious to the passage of time. Have you worked out where you’re going to be, or who will be at your table? Is your menu set? Pretty soon it’s going to be too late to order a Temptations cake for the holiday. Do you really want to start your year with regrets? Just to remind you, here are some of your options.

Of course you don’t have to choose one of these. Some people might prefer a unicorn, or a Monopoly board cake. Who am I to judge? Regardless, the time to order is now, before we’re completely booked solid. Don’t delay!
